I Hate The Fight for Marriage

19 October 2008
I am personally getting so sick of all of the fighting over the definition of marriage and Proposition 8. I hate hearing people on campus talking about. I hate getting emails about how I should support both sides. I hate hearing people bash on each other. I hate how the Church is handling the situation. I hate how a lot of MoHos (and the gay community) are handling the situation. I hate getting facebook invites telling me to "say no" or "say yes." I hate getting into fights with friends about the topic. I hate seeing my friends and family talk about the issue and fight over it because they differ on opinions. I hate how much contention this is causing.

Why can't we all just be friends and be ourselves? Why can't everybody have the same rights? Isn't that what America is about, equal rights for all?

These questions open up a huge discussion on the topic, but I don't want to get involved with it anymore. I am sick of it! I want it to be over and I want to hear nothing about it again. I wish it would all go away.

Once again we resonate perfectly on how we feel. I said the same thing in my last post.

I am tired of the fight and the sides and the contention. Love. Love is the answer. And unity. Not hate and fighting.

I totally agree... and to add one more hate- I hate feeling guilty for trying to understand both sides. It's like, no matter what I do or say, I'm bound to offend someone... :P

both sides are right in their own way. Both sides are wrong in another way. Why do we have to choose?

Patience grasshopper - November 4th isn't that far away. The issue won't go away entirely - but the rhetoric should be toned down.

I'll be glad for it to be gone, too. I had to explain to someone this morning that the church wouldn't have to close the temples in California, any more than they do in Canada, Sweden, Denmark, Norway and the Netherlands (or any European country...)

To be honest with you I hate that I have to even fight this battle. I can't believe the world has got to the point where we have to do this. Standing for something is never easy. Yes I've lost friends over this. Well I guess they were never friends to begin with if disagreeing with them can be a cause of this, but still when I read posts about how evil I am for stating my opinions it does hurt.

I have tried to be tolerant. For the most part I have been very liberal of the comments I've allowed to stay on my blog even if I disagree with them. I will only remove them if they are direct assaults or just hateful and spitefully worded. I think I've been nice and provided equal time to them.

But still. It hurts when people who claim to be so tolerant can be so intolerant of anyone who disagrees with them.

I will be glad when this is over. But I don't think it ever will be. Satan will continue to attack the world, trying to color sin as a civil right and trying to influence the world to follow him. Those who stand for truth and the gospel will be mocked. It will only get worse. The Book of Mormon warns of this. We are in the latter days.

There comes a time when we do have to make a choice. Its not easy. I hope that you don't think that my acceptance of the Lord's call through his Prophet is somehow connected to me thinking less of you. Whatever your opinion, I still do love and respect you. I hope you know that.
