Moving On

I have decided that I no longer want to consider myself gay. Frankly, I am not gay because I am not pursuing a gay relationship, I want to marry a woman, I am attracted to men, and I want to stay in the church. These things, in my opinion do not constitute me as gay. I am just a normal person who is struggling with Same-Sex Attraction (SSA). That is all.

I think that it will be helpful for me to consider myself this way from now on...

  1. You know, I think that it's not so much what you label yourself, it's the attitude you take. And it seems you're taking a healthy attitude and direction in your life.

  2. It's up to you to pick the best label...

...but I saw your last post. You may want to reconsider not using "gay." :P

  3. SSA is a demeaning term; gay is positive. there's a difference between living a gay lifestyle and being gay.

  4. So, no more 'Gimple'?

Well, as long as you have a positive rationale for how you want to consider yourself, I think you're on good ground.

Lots of people think of 'gay' with a negative association, especially in the church you want to remain active in. I think SSA is fairly accurate, neutral, and a little clinical sounding. In the end, it's all just a bunch of words anyways, but you need to feel comfortable with how and why you describe yourself.

Most importantly, recognize that this SSA thing is just a small (but significant) part of your being and talent pool. Good luck on pursuing your dreams, dear brother.
